>> MESSAGE FROM ME

August 4, 2008

An update!!

Oh, how I wish I could wow you all by posting a new story here, but alas - the "free" time I thought would materialize after the kid was born just didn't happen as planned. Hey! All you parents with children, stop laughing! I honestly didn't imagine that it would take so much time to just eat and sleep! But I digress...let me back up a couple of months.

I did indeed find another job, and it was a good one! I was still a contractor at some Random Software Company, but I was working with some really cool folks, and best of all, I wasn't part of a product team or working in PR or anything like that (not really my thing). All went well, and I worked up until the day before my delivery.

On June 13, at 8:39 am young Mr. Nathaniel Quinn (and yeah, I call him Quinn), was born. I was a bit surprised by, a) how big he was (8 pounds 12 ounces, but he lost a bunch of weight in the hospital and didn't reach that milestone again until 2 weeks ago), b) how much hair he had (I was bald until well after a year) and c) how good looking he was. Yeah, all new moms say that, but he really surprised me by being an easy-on-the-eyes kid! <g> I have been incredibly fortunate in that he's a darn good baby. He only cries for a reason (usually food) and loves just looking around (at either people or walls).

The bad news (and you gotta admit, this does seem to happen to me a bit too frequently), is that after assuring me that I'd have a job to come back to in September, I was laid off just two weeks after Quinn was born. Talk about a body-blow... The good news is that I was wanting a permanent job anyhow, and although the pay was dang good, I know I can find something else. Hopefully closer to where I live!

Now all I need is to find a part time nanny (10-15 days a month). If any of you know someone in the greater Seattle area who is qualified, please let me know!

I've started to get the writer's itch again, and now that Quinn is almost sleeping through the night (I did mention that I have a great baby, right?), I just might be able to get something out before heading back to work. Unfortunately, right now any free time I have is spent sending out applications and writing cover letters. Blech!

Thanks for hanging in there with me!!
