MESSAGE FROM ME
February 16, 2008
She's alive!!
No new story, but I did finally get a free moment so I could
update this homepages, as well as get rid of all the horrible
spam in my guestbook. [cracks knuckles] - let's see how well
they do with a randomly generated 20-character file name!
These last 6 months have got to be setting some sort of record
for craziness. I keep having these knock-out, life-alternating
events happen to me!! First, I got pregnant, followed immediately
by losing my job when my entire office was shut down. But
before I could get too panicky, I managed to get another sweet
job - contract work, but it paid well. Then, there's my poor
remodel. 30% over budget, and still not done. Arggh!
Hawaii was cancelled due to my coming to my senses about
funds (my mom went with her best friend instead). It's a darn
good thing I didn't go to, as not even a week after that the
unthinkable happened - I was fired. Who in their
right mind fires a 4 1/2 month pregnant woman?!?! The bitter
irony here was that I was in the midst of trying to get a
new job. I so saw the writing on the wall and had been convinced
to stay the month before. My supervisor told me she'd
work on communication and not micro managing (perfectly acceptable
when you're new in your industry, but after ten years experience,
you really don't expect someone looking over your shoulder
every 5 minutes). Not only did things get worse, but in the
end, before *I* could quit, she decided to let me go. DEVISTATION!!
Ah, but being the ever so resourceful dietcokechic that I
am, I scrambled about like crazy interviewing and trying to
find another position that would afford me the exact same
benefits (no way was I switching ob/gyns this late in the
game). Then, at the 11th hour (aka the day before my job ended),
I found something else. Exact same salary, exact same benefits,
and I'll be working just two floors down from where I was
(still an evil commute, but who the heck cares!). Seems these
guys met me ONCE two weeks previously, but that, combined
with my resume, was enough to get me on their team. Best of
all, this is a MUCH better fit. I'm super busy, have peers
who are willing (and even enjoy) talking with me, and have
the autonomy and authority needed to just do my job. YES.
This new job thing just happened this week and I'm utterly
knackered from working 5 days a week on campus (previously
I could work 3 days a week at home as I live so far away).
I'm commuting 4 hours a day, which is a bit much given that
I need to pee every hour or so! I'll be moving to a 3-day
a week schedule in two weeks, and after that I should have
a bit of breathing room TO WRITE. My refinance HAS to take
place by the end of March, and that's also when I'll probably
be too big to really do much around the house (in terms of
construction stuff). If I don't manage to get something up
in the next few weeks, I definitely will in April or May.
I mean, outside of work, there isn't much I'll be able to
do, right? At least, that's what I'm hoping.
Thank you so much for hanging in there with me. I will return.
Really!! :)
